If you want to become a contractor or a plumber, there are certain tools that you simply must have. The performing artist has essential tools also. In addition to your musical equipment, here are a few of the basic tools a performing artist really needs.
1. Demo Tape: You will need some type of recording that accurately demonstrates your musical talent. You can spend a little or a lot on a demo. Be sure you understand the purpose of your demo and spend accordingly.
2. Press Kit: This is a packet of materials that paints a detailed picture of who you are. In its simplest form, it should include a nice black and white or color head shot (photo), a well-written biography, endorsement letters, and any press clippings you may have.
3. Wardrobe: Most young Christian artists don’t think about “stage clothes” but it is critical that you look the part of a professional performer. Be careful to select clothes that are appropriate for the kind of venues you perform at (mini-skirts in most churches would not be considered appropriate). Also, be sure that you feel comfortable.
